Cattery Elvëa Mëoi is a very young Cattery of Old-Style Siamese from Dordrecht, The Netherlands. We're members of the NVvK , a Dutch cat club that issues our pedigrees. We're also members of TICA, an international cat association that has recently accepted the old style siamese as a separate breed under the name Thai. Besides members of this club we are also members of OSSC UK, a British club for the preservation of the Old-Style Siamese and of PREOSSIA, an American Society for the preservation of the Old-Style Siamese. PREOSSIA has written, together with TICA judges and other breeders a breed standard of the Old-Style Siamese, or TICA Thai. By whatever name it is known, this is a Siamese that is more robust and less extreme than the modern show-style Siamese. Despite the nickname applehead, the cat is not cobby and roundheaded like a Himalayan. Rather it is a substantial, moderately Oriental cat with a modified wedge head. The kind of Siamese we are talking about can be clearly seen in many old photos of Siamese cats from one hundred years ago.

The Cattery name Elvëa Mëoi comes from Quenya (higher elflanguage developed by J.R.R. Tolkien) and it means starlike cat, with elvëa meaning starlike and mëoi meaning cat. I have a small LOTR addiction and besides, Siamese are very much like Elves, graceful, intelligent and beautiful, and a bit mysterious....
