Friday 29th April 2005 Today the umbilical cords of Beren (Boy 2) and Bereth (Girl) have fallen off. Balan (Boy 1) is the first with getting any colour, on the edges of his ears and on his nose leather, he therefore might be a seal point.
Sunday May 1st 2005 The kittens have
gotten their names, it was a hard decision for a while (so many nice
names to choose from), but these are the names: Boy 1, with the blue
nailpolish is called Balan which means "divine power", Boy 2, with
the pink nailpolish is called Beren which means "bold" (and on top of
it is the name of the mortal Beren who fell in love with the Elf
maiden Luthien, from the Silmarillion by JRR Tolkien), the only
girl goes by the name of Bereth which means "queen".
Beren's eyes are starting to open.
Arwen and Beren
Tuesday 17th May 2005 The kittens are three weeks old now! The difference with three weeks ago is huge (which is more obvious because I can look at Gloriana's kittens at the same time). These three kittens are real miniature cats already, very adventurous too. Arwen tried to move them to a nice cat bed this morning, which is next to the birth box, so I helped her with it. The family now lives on the guestbed with besides the birth box also two nice cat beds. Arwen prefers those beds and she's boss!
*translation follows soon* Vrijdag 20 mei 2005 De bevallingsdoos is eigenlijk sinds dinsdag niet meer gebruikt, ik heb ze er niet meer ingezien eigenlijk, het stel waggelt nu veel vaker over het bed heen, ik neem ze regelmatig op schoot, ze zijn al goed aan mij gewend. Arwen is nu al begonnen met het knippen van de snorhaartjes, een week geleden hadden ze nog een mooie volle snor, maar ze worden steeds korter. Arm grut, dat gaat pas weer aangroeien als ze uitvliegen (maar ze groeien prachtig aan hoor!). Arwen houdt hun capriolen nauwlettend in de gaten, mekkert ze toe als ze te ver gaan, niet dat ze altijd luisteren natuurlijk. Het stel is behalve het logeerbed verkennen ook druk met wat gestoei en wat gewas, en ze vinden het ook interessant om overal aan te likken. Papier of een handdoek bijvoorbeeld. Hun tandjes beginnen ook al te groeien. En na deze tijd kan ik toch wel met redelijke zekerheid zeggen dat Balan een seal point is en Beren en Bereth beide chocolate points. Ik kan het stel al een tijdje zonder naar hun gelakte nageltjes te kijken onderscheiden, en ik heb de nagellak niet bijgewerkt dus dat is er vast al af. Balan is makkelijk, hij is de donkerste, haha, en de twee chocs zijn ook makkelijk te onderscheiden. Als je goed naar de bovenstaande foto's kijkt kun je zien dat Beren een heel breed kopje heeft, ik vind hem een miniatuur Pikatchu, hij lijkt echt heel erg op zijn vader. Zijn zus Beren heeft een wat fijner kopje, meer meisjesachtig, haha. Voor twee van dit nest heb ik al een fijn huisje gevonden, zij gaan een flinke reis maken (naar Finland), Bereth en één van haar broers (de keus moet nog gemaakt worden) zullen het leven van een echtpaar en hun 15-jarige Siamees gaan verblijden tzt. Omdat ze zo ver zullen reizen betekent het ook dat ze langer bij mij zullen blijven dan de 13/14 weken die normaal is... dit ivm met de EU regels mbt het reizen met huisdieren. De kittens hebben een Rabiës vaccinatie nodig die minimaal een maand oud moet zijn voordat ze de grenzen over mogen... en Rabiës wordt eigenlijk pas vanaf een leeftijd van 12 weken gegeven.... wat zal ik het erg vinden dat ze langer zullen blijven, haha ;-)
Tuesday 24th May Beren had been gaining hardly any weight for the past two days, not like his brother and sister. Therefore I made kittenporridge today (canned food mixed with KMR kittenmilk), Beren attacked it like he was famished (maybe he was), he ate and ate. Balan and Bereth did not like it that much, they still prefer Arwen's milk.
Wednesday 25th May Since past weekend I have been doubting Balan's colour, if he were a seal point he should have been darker by now, but he isn't. And after consultation from my friends Brigitte and Beatrix I am now totally convinced: Balan is a Blue Point! Something that I really did not expect. I had no idea if Arwen carried dilution for blue and the chance for seal points is just the biggest. But Arwen does not seem to care for "theory of probability", because two chocolates and one blue point is not standard. To be exact, the chance for a sealpoint was 37,5%, the chance for both chocolate point and blue point was 25% and the chance for lilac point was 12,5%, this according to the theory of probability, where everything is based on repetitions, a mean so to speak: "individual results may vary".
